Tributes to Samala Sadashiva

 Tributes to Samala Sadashiva

It is hard to digest that the multi-talented son of the soil Samala Sadashiva has not got his due recognition even in our own state Telangana. He is the last Telangana person to receive(till now) Kendra sahitya academy award in Telugu. He got this award in 2011 for his book titled ‘swaralayalu’.Poet, story writer, essayist, novelist and learned musicologist who hailed from Adilabad strived hard to serve the language, literature and culture of Telangana. Apart from this he is a wonderful painter. On the advice of luminary Suravaram Prathapa Reddy he took to poetry and excelled in it. Over six decades he constantly wrote in different genres. He dedicated his life to study and expose the Telangana talent. He was gulf between the younger and old generation of literary saga. Sadashiva was a hard core Telangaanite. When the Telangana writers meet was held at Adilabad on the initiation of Sridhar Deshpande and other friends as a father figure he inaugurated it and spoke at length. I was one of the many curious participants of the meet. After the formation of Telangana state, school textbooks changed. In the changed scenario Sadashiva’s writings included it. It is a welcome step. But the government of Telangana should recognize his yeoman service and name any one of the music college after Sadashiva, and his birth anniversary may be celebrated as native music day.Friends are celebrating this august month as “social justice month” hence I request the friends to pay floral tributes to this Padmashali pioneer on his Vardhanthi..
